I honestly love this assignment, my feeling is that I don't usually have the time or opportunity to do something like this, and this assignment encourages me. I'm someone who already enjoys wandering around aimlessly, and I've been known to walk up to a dozen kilometers a day in my free time, I think. This time I started on the afternoon of November 10th, and my health app told me that I walked 14,678 steps that day, eventually walking from school to the edge of the East River in Dumbo. I was enjoying the walking in between and I just started an exercise app to record my route in a very simple and brutal way. Even because of this ASSIGNMENT, I went out for another walk at the same time on November 17th. My friend and I chatted along the way while setting a rule every now and then. Randomly wandered into some interesting stores. I used to be afraid to walk in New York because I was unfamiliar with the environment and also felt unsafe, after my third year here, I'm getting used to it now. But I still get nervous about accidents when my friend and I walk through some unfamiliar streets in the course of a random walk, and there's one street where a lot of young black people just stay there doing nothing, smoking cigarettes or marijuana, running around, and talking playfully. Once we got around Dumbo, the atmosphere became much more pleasant, with lots of small, sophisticated looking stores selling jewelry, scarves, clothes, cutlery, decorations, etc., and we all went in to browse. Eventually came to the river and then decided to return.
